Why Modern Standard Service
Good and cheap? Something breaks.
A commercial espresso machine works every trading day for ten years or more. When one is sold for less, the saving has to come from somewhere: the installation, the warranty, the parts or the people who answer the phone. You usually find out which on a busy morning.
- Installation included
- Initial PVI included free
- 12-month parts & labour warranty
Good or cheap
Where a cheap price saves its money
We don't sell the cheapest box. We sell a machine at a fair price, install it properly, and look after it for as long as you have it.
-
Installation
The cheap way
Delivered on a pallet. Plumbing, water treatment and commissioning cost extra, or are left to you.
The MSS way
Included in the price. Our own engineers install it, set up water treatment, dial it in and show your team how to use it.
-
Warranty
The cheap way
Parts and labour aren't always both covered, and it isn't always clear who comes out to fix it.
The MSS way
12 months parts and labour, subject to manufacturer terms. Our own engineers handle every warranty call-out.
-
Parts
The cheap way
Ordered in when something breaks, while your machine sits idle.
The MSS way
We carry parts for every brand we sell, so an engineer can finish the job.
-
After year one
The cheap way
The warranty ends, and so does the relationship.
The MSS way
Bronze, Silver or Gold service plans with labour included. 24-hour response on Silver and Gold.
Good and cheap don't come in the same box. If they do, something breaks.

Compliance
Why the pressure inspection matters
An espresso machine's boiler holds steam and hot water under pressure. That makes it a pressure system under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR).
The law puts the duty on whoever owns or operates the machine, not the supplier. It protects your staff, keeps you compliant, and gives you a record if your insurer or an inspector asks. Many buyers only find out about it after the machine is installed. Read the HSE guidance.
- A written scheme of examination in place before the machine is used
- Examinations by a competent person, at the intervals the scheme sets
- Safety valves and other protective devices kept in working order
- The machine properly maintained throughout its life
Included with us: we carry out the initial PVI free of charge on every new machine we install that has a pressure vessel, such as espresso and bean-to-cup machines. It's normally £420 + VAT. The annual PVI is included in our Gold service plan.
Questions to ask any supplier
Put these to anyone quoting for your machine. We'll answer every one in writing with your quote.
- Is installation and commissioning included, and who does it?
- Is the first pressure vessel inspection (PVI) included?
- Does the warranty cover parts and labour, and who comes out?
- How quickly will an engineer attend if the machine stops?
- Do you keep parts for this machine in stock?
- What does servicing cost after the first year?

Contact the teamWhy aren't you the cheapest?
Because our price includes the things a cheap price leaves out: installation by our own engineers, the initial pressure vessel inspection, a 12-month parts and labour warranty we handle ourselves, and parts on the shelf. We'd rather quote a fair price once than have you pay for it later in downtime.
Is installation really included?
Yes. Every machine price includes installation and commissioning by our engineers. Before we book, we send you a pre-installation checklist covering power, water, drainage and space. You sign it off, so everything is ready when we arrive.
What is a PVI, and do I need one?
A pressure vessel inspection checks that the boiler and its safety devices are safe to use. Espresso machine boilers hold steam under pressure, so they come under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000. The owner or operator is responsible for having a written scheme of examination in place and for regular examinations by a competent person. See the HSE's guidance.
What happens after the first year?
You can choose a Bronze, Silver or Gold service plan, all with labour included. Gold also includes the annual PVI. If you're not on a plan, we still come out when you need us.
