Should you repair or replace your coffee machine?

Put in your repair quote and how often the machine has let you down. We'll show what it's really costing you, and whether it's worth fixing.

This is a rule-of-thumb guide, not a quote. New-machine prices are our current installed prices, shown ex VAT, for the number of groups you choose. Your engineer's assessment of the boiler, group heads and parts availability matters more than any calculator.

How we'd decide

When is a commercial coffee machine worth repairing?

A well-built commercial espresso machine can run for many years if it's maintained. The question isn't just "can it be fixed?" but "what will it cost to keep it running, and what is downtime costing you?"

The size of the repair

A common rule of thumb: if a repair costs more than half the price of a new machine, replacing it is usually the better spend.

How often it breaks

One breakdown in a year is normal wear. Repeated breakdowns usually mean more are coming, and every one costs you sales.

Age and parts

As machines age, more components wear at once. Ask your engineer whether parts are still readily available for your model.

Does it still fit your business?

If you've outgrown it, a busier bar with more groups or better steam can pay for itself in faster service.

How long does a commercial espresso machine last?

With planned maintenance and good water treatment, a commercial espresso machine can stay in service for many years. Age matters less than its condition, how often it breaks down and whether parts are still available for your model.

When should I replace rather than repair?

A common rule of thumb is to replace when a repair costs more than half the price of a new machine, or when breakdowns keep coming back. Lost sales during downtime count too. Our calculator puts those numbers side by side.

How much does a new commercial espresso machine cost?

See the current prices on our machine pages. Every machine price includes installation and commissioning by our engineers, and the initial PVI is included free.

Can I lease a new machine instead of buying?

Yes. We work with Premier Leasing & Finance to spread the cost of a new, installed machine. Applicants will be assessed. See leasing and finance.

Does a new machine come with a warranty?

Yes. All new machines from Modern Standard Service include a 12-month parts and labour warranty from installation, subject to the manufacturer's terms, correct installation, appropriate water treatment and normal commercial use.

Can you repair my machine instead?

If it's from a brand we service, yes. Book a repair or call 01279 452110, and our engineer will tell you honestly whether it's worth it.
