Shipping & Delivery

Shipping & Delivery

Commercial coffee equipment is heavy, specialist equipment and often requires careful handling. This page explains how delivery works when you order from Modern Standard Service.

Dispatch times

For equipment that is in stock, we normally aim to dispatch within 2โ€“5 working days.

For standard equipment that needs to be ordered or prepared before dispatch, the typical lead time is 5โ€“7 working days.

Custom powder-coated or specially configured machines normally take around 14โ€“21 working days. This allows time to confirm the required colour or finish, complete the customisation work and prepare the machine for delivery.

These are estimated lead times rather than guaranteed delivery dates. Manufacturer availability, customisation requirements and transport delays can occasionally affect timings.

How your machine is delivered

The delivery method depends on the type and size of equipment ordered.

Espresso machines

Commercial espresso machines are normally delivered securely on a pallet.

Pallet deliveries are generally kerbside delivery only. This means the delivery company is responsible for delivering the pallet to the delivery address, but not for bringing the machine inside the premises, unpacking it, positioning it on a counter or carrying it up or down stairs.

Someone must be available at the delivery address to accept and sign for the equipment.

Grinders and smaller equipment

Grinders, filter coffee machines and similar smaller items will normally be delivered by courier.

Someone must be available to accept the delivery where a signature or attended delivery is required.

Depending on the order, equipment may also be delivered directly by the manufacturer or by Modern Standard Service.

Access requirements

Before ordering, please make sure that the delivery location has suitable access for the equipment being supplied.

For large commercial espresso machines, we require step-free access from the delivery point to the installation area.

You must tell us in advance if there are:

  • stairs or steps;

  • restricted doorways;

  • narrow corridors;

  • restricted loading access;

  • parking restrictions;

  • small or unsuitable lifts; or

  • any other access restrictions.

If step-free access is not available, the customer is responsible for arranging suitable additional labour, lifting equipment or another safe means of getting the machine into position.

Please contact us before delivery if you are unsure whether your site is suitable.

Installation & scheduling

Most commercial espresso machines require professional installation, including appropriate water, drainage and electrical connections.

Where you have purchased installation from us, we will try to coordinate delivery and installation so that the machine arrives and is installed in the same visit wherever reasonably possible.

This is not always possible, and in some cases the equipment may be delivered before our engineer attends.

Installation is not included in the standard machine price unless expressly stated otherwise and is charged separately.

Before installation, your site must meet our installation requirements. These may include:

  • suitable electrical supply;

  • suitable mains water connection;

  • appropriate drainage;

  • all required counter or worktop holes already cut;

  • suitable space and ventilation;

  • safe access to the installation area; and

  • suitable loading and unloading access.

Please see our installation requirements page for full details.

Where required, we can supply and install suitable BRITA water filtration equipment at an additional cost.

Delivery areas

Standard delivery is included in the machine price for addresses in mainland Great Britain.

Delivery to:

  • Northern Ireland;

  • the Scottish islands;

  • the Isle of Man;

  • the Channel Islands; and

  • other non-mainland locations

may be available by prior agreement and will normally incur additional delivery, travel or logistics charges.

Please contact us via our contact page if you need delivery to one of these locations.

Delivery costs

Standard delivery of equipment to mainland Great Britain is included in the machine price, unless we expressly state otherwise.

Installation is an additional service and is charged separately.

Additional charges may apply for:

  • non-mainland delivery;

  • restricted or unusual access;

  • specialist lifting requirements;

  • additional delivery personnel;

  • timed or specialist delivery services; and

  • redelivery or storage where a delivery cannot be completed.

Any significant additional charges that we are aware of in advance will normally be confirmed before the relevant service is arranged.

Checking your delivery

Please inspect your equipment as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

If there is visible transit damage, please:

  • take clear photographs of the packaging and equipment;

  • retain the packaging where possible; and

  • contact Modern Standard Service within 24 hours of delivery.

Prompt notification allows us to raise any necessary claim with the carrier or supplier as quickly as possible.

If you are a consumer, requesting notification within 24 hours does not remove or reduce any statutory rights you may have in relation to damaged or faulty goods.

Failed deliveries

It is the customer's responsibility to make sure that:

  • the delivery address is correct;

  • someone is available to accept the delivery;

  • suitable access is available; and

  • we have been told about any access restrictions in advance.

If a delivery cannot be completed because no one is available, access is unsuitable, the address or information supplied is incorrect, or another issue at the site prevents delivery, we may charge reasonable redelivery, storage, handling and additional transport costs.

Delayed delivery or installation

If equipment is ready for delivery or installation but you ask us to delay it, we may hold the equipment for a reasonable period.

Where a delay continues for more than 14 days after the agreed delivery or installation date, we may charge reasonable storage, handling, insurance and redelivery costs.
